About Helen S. Nelson, MD

Dr. Helen Shi Nelson is a specialty care physician board certified in obstetrics and gynecology at Inova. She joined Inova in 2019 and has been practicing since 2019.

Dr. Nelson joined the OB-GYN residency program at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in 2019 and served as chief administrative resident.

Dr. Nelson’s clinical areas of interest include abnormal uterine bleeding, contraception, minimally invasive surgery, antepartum care, postpartum care and breastfeeding. She enjoys working with all patients, but as a first-generation American, she is especially interested in treating patients who come from diverse backgrounds. Her patient care philosophy is to treat patients as individuals with unique challenges. Dr. Nelson’s goal is to break down medical information into simplified facts and educate patients, so they can make the best decisions for their bodies.

Outside the office, Dr. Nelson enjoys exploring the outdoors in the beautiful DMV area with her husband, spending time with her cat and walking him around the neighborhood, reading, cooking new recipes, and exploring different cuisines. She is fluent in Mandarin.
