Breast Health Program

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital's Breast Health Center serves as a model for the entire Inova Health System. Dedicated to helping women and men maintain breast health, we offer screening mammograms, comprehensive mammograms and breast sonograms to detect early signs of disease.

Because we recognize that breast compression may be unpleasant, we take every available measure to help ensure your comfort by offering a "softer" mammogram with the Mammopad, a foam-like breast "pillow" used to reduce the discomfort of a mammogram while still providing high quality X-rays.

In cases where it is necessary to examine breast tissue microscopically, we can perform minimally invasive procedures, which heal quicker with less scarring:

• stereotactic breast biopsy
• ultrasound-guided breast biopsy

Digital Mammography Now Available
At the Inova Mount Vernon Hospital Breast Health Center, your health means everything to us. That is why we invested in digital mammography – to make sure our patients have the most advanced technologies and treatments to fight cancer. A recent landmark study has proven digital mammography especially effective for three categories of patients: women under 50; woman who are pre-menopausal or in its beginning stages; and women with dense breasts.
