Inova Alexandria Hospital Names Christine Candio CEO

January 17, 2008
Alexandria, VA — Inova Alexandria Hospital has named Christine M. Candio, RN, FACHE, chief executive officer. She begins in her new position February 4.
Candio has 25 years of clinical management experience in a wide variety of healthcare settings, serving most recently as executive vice president of Hallmark Health System and executive vice president of Lawrence Memorial Hospital, also part of Hallmark Health System in Melrose, Massachusetts. While there, she led a broad array of health system service lines and was responsible for developing and implementing a number of strategic projects, including construction and renovation, technology upgrades and expansions, and process and performance improvements.
“We’re extremely pleased that Christine will be part of Inova Alexandria Hospital’s history of providing excellent care, which stretches back 135 years,” said Rod Huebbers, executive vice president, Inova Health System, and interim CEO of Inova Alexandria Hospital. “She has an excellent track record of working closely with physicians, nurses and other staff, improving patient satisfaction scores, and building strong relationships between communities and their hospitals. I know she’ll prove a real asset to the Inova team.”
Prior to her appointment in 2003 as executive vice president of Hallmark Health System, Candio served at the system level as vice president of Women’s & Children’s Services. She also served at Lawrence Memorial Hospital as chief nursing executive.
Before her tenure at Hallmark Health System, Candio served as administrative director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Monmouth Medical Center, in Long Branch, New Jersey. Her first position with the center was as nurse manager of Ambulatory Services.
Candio is president of the Healthcare Management Association of Massachusetts, a chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). A Fellow at the College, she is a participant in its Mentorship Program, and serves on the ACHE National Chapters Committee.
Candio holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing and a Master’s in Public Administration, with a focus in health care management.
