New Hire Support Program

Philosophy
The New Hire Support Program for Nursing improves new hire retention by promoting clinical competency and easing the anxieties often associated with transition into a new work environment.

Purpose
To provide new hires, including new graduates, with a support program that supplements the clinical orientation program, addresses clinical learning needs, provides clinical and professional mentoring, intensive feedback and social activities throughout the first 15 months of employment for the new graduate nurse and the first nine to 12 months of the experienced nurse new hire. The duration of participation in the new hire support program is tailored to the individual needs of the new hire.

New Hire Support coordination role
The new hire support coordinator role is designed to provide intensive monitoring of the new hire's progress in adapting to all aspects of the work environment with rapid intervention to address any problems that arise. The new hire support coordinator will track all new hires for two years.

New Hire Support participants
