Excellence in Medical Education Certificate

The Inova Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators has created an Excellence in Medical Education Certificate Program. Participation is open to all physicians and trainees with an interest in education. A minimum of 8 workshops on core and elective topics will be required over the course of a two-year time period. 

To claim credit for a session, you must attend in person or participate virtually in real time via Zoom.

Another requirement of all Academy members is that they should be in good standing with all of their UME and GME responsibilities.

Criteria

There are three tiers of membership in the Academy:

1. Trainee Tier

Open to medical students, residents, and fellows. Requirements: attend minimum of 4 workshops per year. Benefits include access to additional training, mentorship, and the certificate program.

Online Application: Trainee Tier

 

2. Educator Tier

Open to any physician with an interest in medical education. Requirements: participate in certificate program, or attend a minimum of 4 workshops per year if the certificate has been attained. Benefits include additional training, mentorship, and the certificate program.

3. Scholar-Educator Tier

Open to physicians who are able to show sustained excellence in teaching, education, and medical education scholarship. Requirements: teach at least one workshop annually, be available to mentor Academy Educators and/or trainees, scholarly activity in medical education (including dissemination of some sort, e.g., presentation at regional or national conferences, publishing, etc.). Benefits include the certificate program, peer mentorship, and the community of educators.
