Dr. Abdulla A. Damluji is an interventional cardiologist and a key member of the Structural Heart/Valve Disease Program at Inova Schar Heart and Vascular. He holds leadership roles as the Co-Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Inova Alexandria Hospital and the Director of the Inova Center of Outcomes Research (ICOR). In his role at ICOR, Dr. Damluji is dedicated to driving innovation and improving outcomes for older adults undergoing cardiovascular interventions.
As an Associate Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Medicine in Baltimore and a Pepper Scholar (Geriatrics) at JHU's Center on Aging and Health, Dr. Damluji is deeply involved in advancing research focused on cardiovascular aging. His work as a Pepper Scholar is supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health focusing on studying multisystem dysregulation in older adults undergoing cardiovascular interventions. He also receives NIH-NIHLBI K23-HL 153771-01, R01-AG078153 and HA-2021C3-24767 funding.
In addition to his board certifications in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease, internal medicine, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology, Dr. Damluji brings more than 17 years of clinical experience to Inova.
Dr. Damluji is the chair of the American Heart Association's (AHA) acute cardiovascular and general cardiology committee and a member of the AHA's scientific oversight and interventional cardiology committee. He is also a member of the American College of Cardiology’s (ACC) geriatric cardiology leadership council. He received the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) Emerging Leaders Mentorship and is part of SCAI’s scientific oversight committee. He serves as an editorial consultant for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC Advances) and on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Heart Association and the American Heart Journal.
Dr. Damluji received his medical degree with honors from the University of Baghdad in Iraq, a master’s in public health with a concentration in biostatistics from JHU, and a doctoral degree in clinical investigation from JHU’s Bloomberg School of Public Health. He also received an executive master of business administration from the New York University Stern School of Business, where he was the Dean's Scholar in finance and business analytics.
