About Cherie Q. Marfori, MD

Dr. Cherie Q. Marfori, MD, FACOG, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified gynecologic surgeon who specializes in benign reproductive surgery using minimally invasive techniques.

She was recruited to Inova as the Section Chief of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery in 2021 after serving as the Medical and Fellowship Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at George Washington University, where she practiced for 15 years. She is currently an Associate Professor of Education as well as the Associate Program Director for the combined fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery between Inova and the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD.

Dr. Marfori enjoys taking care of patients with problems across the gynecologic spectrum and specializes in restorative surgery for fibroids, endometriosis, Asherman’s syndrome, infertility, Mullerian anomalies and gender dysphoria. In the operating room, Dr. Marfori is recognized as an expert in complex laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures. Additionally, she is credentialed in robotic gynecologic surgery and has been a pioneer in developing innovative ways to perform procedures in the safest, least invasive manner possible. Examples include single-site, two-port, and the newest technique, vNOTES (vaginal natural orifice) hysterectomies, providing patients with improved outcomes and shorter recoveries. Furthermore, she has expertise in office hysteroscopy, allowing patients the ease and convenience of this procedure in comfortable surroundings, requiring little to no analgesia, with no downtime.

Dr. Marfori was designated a Surgeon of Excellence in 2013 by the Surgical Review Corporation and was part of a distinguished inaugural class to earn the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s focused practice designation in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery in 2021. She serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology and is passionate about teaching the next generation of gynecologic surgeons. She has presented her clinical and educational research at national venues with the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynecology (APGO), and the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons (SGS).

Dr. Marfori is widely loved for her ability to provide highly personalized care, taking the time to ensure every patient receives and understands all options, both surgical and medical. She takes great joy in forming trusted partnerships with her patients.
