About Chimsom T. Oleka, MD

Dr. Chimsom T. Oleka, FACOG, is a specialty care physician double board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatric and adolescent gynecology, which is a specialization in the medical and surgical management of gynecologic conditions from as early as in utero through adolescence, at Inova Health System. She joined Inova in 2023 and has been practicing since 2011.

Dr. Oleka frequently refers to herself as an "athlete gynecologist" in that she provides direct gynecologic care and the coordination of OB-GYN care for athletes. She is widely respected for her unique experience and training in these emerging subspecialties of gynecology and has a medical interest in conditions such as, but not limited to, normal and abnormal pubertal development, normal and abnormal menstruation, reproductive congenital anomalies, endometriosis, simple and complex contraception, vulvovaginal infections/dermatological issues, and athlete-specific gynecologic concerns.

After receiving her undergraduate degree with honors in biology from the University of Louisville, Dr. Oleka received her medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She completed an internship and residency in obstetrics, gynecology and women’s health at the University of Connecticut Health Sciences Center in Farmington followed by a fellowship in pediatric and adolescent gynecology at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Previously, Dr. Oleka chaired and co-founded the women’s health committee within the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee’s National Medical Network. She is currently an active member of the Women's Health Task Force within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

Among her many achievements, Dr. Oleka has presented both nationally and internationally on topics related to her specialty, is an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, is a member of the North American Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, and is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Dr. Oleka's patient care philosophy entails “the desire to be a clarifying breath of fresh air and hope to families and young girls/women/people dealing with complicated, and sometimes mystifying, gynecologic diagnoses and situations through the implementation of evidence-based surgical and medical treatment, as well as through the emotive restoration and rebuilding of life quality. I hope to empower young women and people to take charge of their reproductive and sexual health while also providing a safe outlet for discussion, dialogue and growth. As Ntozake Shange wrote, ‘Where there is a woman, there is magic.’”
