Dr. Greg Fischer is board certified in anesthesiology and pain management with more than 29 years of clinical experience. He completed his pain management fellowship through Harvard’s combined program after finishing his anesthesia residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He has been with Inova Health System since 1998 and serves as the Medical Director for the Inova Comprehensive Pain Centers.
Dr. Fischer specializes in treating acute and chronic pain through a multimodal approach that includes nonoperative injections and procedures, rehabilitative therapies, medications, adjunctive therapies, and education.
He serves as Inova’s Program Director for Pain Medicine, is Chairman of Inova's Opioid Task Force and is the pain medicine physician for the Washington Commanders.
His approach to care is to optimize the most conservative, lowest risk treatments before considering higher risk, more interventional therapies as clinically indicated through best practice.
Dr. Fischer serves as an Assistant Professor of anesthesiology and pain management at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Inova Campus. He also provides continuing medical education lectures to community physicians to ensure proper opioid prescribing as mandated by the Virginia Board of Medicine.
Dr. Fischer is a native of Pittsburgh and lives in Oakton, VA, with his wife, in-laws and dog. He is the father of three children. When he is not working, he enjoys enology, learning about particle and astrophysics, running, and training for the Marine Corps Marathon, Army and Cherry Blossom ten-mile runs.
