About Haley M. Smith, NP

Haley Smith is a board-certified pediatric nurse practitioner and certified diabetes nurse educator who specializes in diabetes care and endocrinology at Inova Health System. She joined Inova in 2022 upon the opening of the new children’s specialty clinic. She has more than 10 years of nursing experience, with past RN experience in critical care nursing, postpartum care, pediatric hematology/oncology and pediatric ortho/trauma. She became a licensed nurse practitioner in 2017 and since that time has been working in pediatric endocrinology, previously with Pediatric Specialists of Virginia until her transition to Inova.

Haley specializes in caring for patients with obesity, prediabetes, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and thyroid conditions. She loves the endocrine field, as the conditions are treatable and she gets to help patients achieve their goals and dreams. She strives to treat each patient holistically. She recognizes the impact that chronic illness can have on patients and their loved ones, and she individualizes her treatment plans and patient education in ways that help families feel empowered with their health management. She loves providing patient education and setting patients up with tools for success. She has particular interest in working with teens and adolescents and enjoys participating in the yearly diabetes college transition program, which helps patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus prepare to manage diabetes along with the newfound independence of college life.

Haley lives with her husband, her two daughters and her chocolate labradoodle, Guinness. In her free time, she loves to travel and experience new foods and cultures. She has visited more than 15 countries, but now with two children in tow, she spends most of her vacation time at Disney World or the beach. She also enjoys reading, cooking and music – especially attending live shows.
