About Kathleen M. Murphy, MD

Dr. Kathleen Murphy is a specialty care physician board certified in internal medicine and infectious disease. She joined Inova in 2025 and has been practicing as an infectious disease physician since 2019, with a clinical focus on the care of immunocompromised patients including solid organ transplant recipients and patients with cancer.

Prior to joining Inova, Dr. Murphy was an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. She also served as the Associate Hospital Epidemiologist for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and as the Medical Director of Infection Control and Prevention for the Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn, she received multiple awards for clinical care, teaching medical trainees and her contributions to health system leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Murphy is dedicated to helping patients safely navigate the complexities of organ and bone marrow transplant evaluation and post-transplant care. In her free time, she enjoys exploring Northern Virginia with her family and outdoors biking, hiking and running.
