About Mitchell I. Cohen, MD

Mitchell Cohen, MD, FACC, FHRS, is the current Co-Director of the Pediatric Heart Program and Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at Inova L.J. Murphy Children's Hospital. Dr. Cohen is a pediatric and adult congenital electrophysiologist. He joined Inova Children's Hospital in 2017 from Phoenix Children's Hospital, where he served as Co-Director of Phoenix Children’s Heart Center for 12 years.

Dr. Cohen's clinical and research interests address long-term outcomes of children with cardiovascular implantable electronic devices, genotype specific therapies for patients with channelopathies, catheter ablation for all types of arrhythmias including Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, and late arrhythmic outcomes in adults with congenital heart disease. Dr. Cohen's advocacy interests extend to sudden cardiac death prevention and awareness for all high-school students.

Dr. Cohen has has performed more than 4,000 EP procedures and ablations over the last 25 years. Dr. Cohen has lectured at over 300 national and international scientific meetings and has published more than 100 papers and book chapters. He has been a visiting professor at Primary Children's Hospital and Duke Children's Hospital. Dr. Cohen has served on the Scientific Clinical Documents Committee for the Heart Rhythm Society and been the lead or co-author on more than six nationally published guidelines by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. He is currently the pediatric liaison on the Arrhythmia and Clinical EP Committee of the American College of Cardiology. He is the associate editor (electrophysiology) for both Cardiology in the Young and the World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery.
