Dr. Quoc Hung (Key) Nguyen is a specialty care physician board certified in pediatric surgery.
Dr. Nguyen completed his undergraduate and medical school education in New York, completing his bachelor’s degree at Columbia University followed by his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency training at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by a pediatric surgery fellowship training at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in Queens, NY. He has had extensive training and has a clinical interest in the minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum, using modern techniques such as cryoablation for optimal post-operative pain control.
Dr. Nguyen received numerous awards throughout his training, primarily based on his research on fetal molecular therapy. These included the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS) Outstanding Resident Research Award and the AAS Outstanding Resident/Fellow Presentation Award, each given to one recipient per year. He has produced numerous academic publications and textbook chapters, including an article in Science Translational Medicine on pioneering fetal therapy using protein replacement and stem cell transplantation. His passion for prenatal and neonatal care continues at Inova, where he is honored to serve as the designated surgical liaison for fetal care as well as for the neonatal intensive care unit.
Dr. Nguyen had an international upbringing and is a qualified bilingual provider in Spanish at Inova. He is also proficient in Vietnamese and Mandarin Chinese. Outside the office, he is blessed to have a wonderful wife and pet rabbit at home. He feels privileged to care for the children and families of Northern Virginia and believes in working collaboratively within our multispecialty institution to provide the best care possible.
