The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an amendment to the county's comprehensive land-use plan at their June 28, 2022 meeting to allow for a hospital use on the property adjacent to the existing Franconia-Springfield HealthPlex. A video of the meeting, including a brief presentation from Inova and comments from the Supervisors are below:

This is the first of two Fairfax County approvals necessary to approve the land use. Inova’s rezoning application will is scheduled to be heard by the Planning Commission in July 2022 and the Board of Supervisors in September.

Inova hosted a virtual community meeting on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, to update the community on the proposed hospital project and answer questions. A recording of the meeting and the presentation are posted below. The presentation begins at the 21:15 mark of the video. Public hearings before the Fairfax County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors are scheduled for this summer.

Inova hosted a Virtual Community Meeting on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, to discuss the proposed hospital project and answer questions. A recording of the meeting and the presentation are posted below.

The initial phase of the Franconia-Springfield project will include a state-of-the-art inpatient facility with 110 beds spread across two patient towers. The hospital will include private rooms, an expanded emergency room, diagnostic imaging, and multiple procedural rooms. An adjacent building will offer a variety of outpatient services, including ambulatory surgery, physician offices, and procedural rooms.

The existing HealthPlex will be linked to the hospital through new internal road and walkway connections. Patients will continue to have access to the HealthPlex emergency room, physical therapy, physician offices, and other clinical operations during construction. Inova plans to relocate the existing ER from the HealthPlex to the new hospital in an expanded space. Inova will then renovate the former ER space for other community healthcare services.

Parking will be provided through a combination of above- and below-grade structures, as well as retention of a portion of the existing surface parking. In addition, Inova’s proposal includes a series of improvements along Beulah Street, the Franconia-Springfield Parkway, and the internal streets to improve the flow of traffic to and through the property.
