HIV education, testing and case management are all provided to jail inmates in Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Leesburg and Manassas. Inmates who are HIV positive are referred to case managers 30 to 60 days prior to release in order to create a release plan that includes linkages to HIV medical care, substance abuse and mental health counseling, job counseling and housing information. Case Managers continue case management services for eighteen months after the inmate's release from jail.

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is a daily pill taken in advance to help prevent HIV infection. The CDC recommends that PrEP be considered for people who are HIV-negative and at substantial risk for acquiring HIV.
