Our services

Inova Fairfax West Infusion Center specializes in IV treatments for ambulatory, self-care patients. We offer our patients a comfortable and convenient location to receive their treatments, close to our medical office. Patients receive their infusions in a comfortable patient-controlled, heated seat recliner. With an onsite lab and pharmacy, your treatment team will be able to answer any questions you have and will ensure the highest levels of safety and service.

Inova Fairfax West Infusion Center is under the medical direction of the physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) at Inova Physician Services. Patients will continue to receive the personalized care and connection to their physicians that they are accustomed to. In most cases, the physician visit and infusion session can be coordinated to happen on the same day.

Therapies and treatments provided include, but are not limited to:

  • Biological therapy administration
  • Blood product transfusion
  • Chemotherapy administration
  • Cryotherapy to scalp, hands, and feet if eligible (cryotherapy is only used with certain chemotherapy drugs, and your provider will discuss it with you in detail before you start treatment)
  • Electrolyte replacement
  • Immunosuppression prevention (prophylaxis)
  • Immunotherapy administration
  • Onsite lab draw and testing
  • Onsite Life with Cancer program
  • Patient education

Our staff

Our center is operated by highly skilled registered nurses with experience caring for oncology patients. All staff members participate in continuing education to assure the ongoing delivery of quality care. Our center is considered part of Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Your stay

We encourage family members to participate in patient treatment. With certain medications, we may request a responsible adult to stay for the duration of treatment in case the patient requires a ride home or assistance with cryotherapy. Each patient is welcome to bring ONE visitor to the infusion room during a treatment session. We must limit visitors to minimize infection risk and because we have limited space. Visitors must be more than 15 years old. No infants or children are allowed.

Patients and visitors must not have any contagious illness. Most of our patients have weakened immune systems, making it especially easy for them to catch infections. Please don’t come to the infusion center if you are experiencing a fever or are ill with anything that may be contagious. If you are ill, please tell your provider about your illness and call us to reschedule your appointment.

We offer cable TV to help patients pass the time while receiving treatments. Additionally, patients are free to bring the own personal electronic devices (e.g., tablets, smartphones, laptop computers). We offer free WiFi internet access. However, due to technical broad band limitations, consistent access isn’t guaranteed. This is a complex issue that we continue to work on and hope to improve soon. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Patients are welcome to bring food and drinks to their treatment. We do not provide any meals, but we do have a variety of tea, coffee, juice, water and snacks available.

Parking is free, and covered parking is available. In addition, we have a private parking lot to the right of the infusion center. Visitors may ring the security box at the gate and state that they are here for an Inova Schar Cancer appointment. Security will allow them in. Handicap parking is available, and the site is wheelchair accessible.

Inclement weather

In the event of inclement weather, our infusion center typically stays open. If there are closures or delays, our infusion team will contact patients the day of their appointment.

Scheduling an appointment

Patients will be seen by appointment only. Our team will coordinate referrals with your provider directly. For specific instructions or questions, call the nursing staff at 703-391-2850. After office hours, please leave a recorded message including your name, contact number and type of service requested. Inova Fairfax West Infusion Center will contact you the following business day.
