With the exception of Inova hospitals, Inova Emergency Care and Inova-GoHealth Urgent Care, all Inova outpatient offices will be closed for the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays – Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Some Inova care sites have additional closures for the holidays, which will be noted on the relevant location pages.

The Leapfrog Group is a national organization committed to improving the healthcare quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,700 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. It is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet status

magnet statusInova Mount Vernon Hospital has earned Magnet® status from the American Nurses' Credentialing Center (ANCC), the highest institutional honor awarded for nursing excellence.

The AANC, an affiliate of the American Nurses Association, grants the status to hospitals that satisfy a set of criteria. The process for earning the status is lengthy and measures four years' worth of statistics to come to the determination.

Hospitals applying for magnet status must meet demanding criteria, including benchmarks in nursing leadership, excellence in patient care, quality clinical standards and a commitment to continued quality review and improvement. The benefits to patients include improved medical outcomes, shorter in-hospital stays and lower mortality rates.

According to the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, "Recognizing quality patient care and nursing excellence, the Magnet Recognition Program provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark to measure the quality of care they can expect to receive."

AORN Go Clear AwardInova Mount Vernon Hospital received the Go Clear Award™ for its achievement in eliminating hazardous smoke from its surgical procedures.

The Go Clear Award is presented by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) to recognize healthcare facilities that have committed to providing increased surgical patient and health care worker safety by implementing practices that eliminate smoke caused by the use of lasers and electrosurgery devices during surgery. Inova Mount Vernon Hospital earned its award by undergoing comprehensive surgical smoke education and testing and for providing the medical devices and resources necessary to evacuate surgical smoke during all smoke-generating procedures.
