Services offered

When you need urgent mental health support, you don’t want to wait. That’s why it’s good to know that Inova Psychiatric Assessment Center (IPAC) offers same-day psychiatric services.

At IPAC, we specialize in providing timely and effective mental healthcare solutions for individuals who need help today. We designed IPAC to bridge the gap between the time your mental health symptoms begin and when you can get in to see a regular psychiatric provider. By going to IPAC before your symptoms reach crisis level, you can get the care you need – without having to go to a hospital emergency room.

How IPAC works

We see adults ages 18 years and older at IPAC. You can walk in, or you can call to make an appointment. You’ll be seen by a team of behavioral health professionals for one to three visits. During this time, you and the IPAC care team will work together to establish a permanent medical home in the community, where you can go for ongoing support.

IPAC does not provide long-term, ongoing psychiatric care or psychotherapy services. Our service is also not intended for patients experiencing acute psychiatric crises such as a suicide attempt, psychosis or substance use overdose. If you or a loved one is in crisis, call 911 or go to the nearest ER.

What we offer

  • If you haven’t established regular care with a psychiatric provider in the area, or if you need an evaluation, we can help.
  • We offer compassionate support and guidance during transitional periods, so your care can continue without interruption.
  • We provide immediate (noncrisis) consultation services for people who need prompt psychiatric evaluation.
  • Our experienced behavioral health professionals are available to address your urgent mental health concerns and provide the support you need.
  • We can provide swift access to psychiatric medication services, including bridge prescriptions or referrals, when you can’t wait for your next regularly scheduled appointment.
  • Our team of psychiatric physicians, nurse practitioners and registered nurses offers expert medication management in a time-sensitive manner.

Who we serve

Individuals ages 18 years and older who are experiencing mental health challenges and need immediate attention but have not established regular care with a psychiatric provider.

People who may be experiencing early signs or symptoms of mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders or adjustment difficulties.

Individuals who face barriers to accessing timely mental healthcare through traditional channels, such as long wait times for appointments with psychiatric providers or trouble navigating the healthcare system.

People who are transitioning between mental healthcare providers and need support until regular care is established – individuals who have moved to the area or are switching providers, for example.

Individuals who need short-term psychiatric medication services, including bridge prescriptions or referrals, to manage symptoms while they wait for their upcoming scheduled appointments with their long-term psychiatric providers.
