The section of General Surgery consists of over 30 board-certified surgeons trained to diagnose and manage a broad array of surgical problems. Many are fellowship trained and have particular expertise in certain subspecialties. These range from the common to the unusual, and include hernias, gallbladder disorders, endocrine, breast and intestinal diseases. We see a wide variety of cancer patients, including breast, thyroid and parathyroid, gastrointestinal malignancies including stomach, small and large intestine. Members of our faculty are also experienced in dealing with complex pancreatic and hepatobiliary diseases, both benign and malignant. Soft tissue sarcomas as well as malignant melanoma are managed as well.
A major focus of our section is the training of future general surgeons. Our general surgery residency program has graduated surgeons who are practicing throughout the country and overseas; some have obtained positions in the most competitive fellowship programs in the nation. Others are providing outstanding surgical care in the private practice setting.
