We deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care for all surgical and procedural patients. Led by experienced, board-certified anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists, we employ state-of-the-art technology and techniques to customize anesthesia plans according to each patient’s specific medical history and needs.

Patient safety is our top priority, upheld by rigorous protocols for anesthesia administration, monitoring, and post-operative care. We collaborate closely with surgeons and healthcare teams to ensure smooth coordination throughout the entire surgical process.

In addition to anesthesia services, we prioritize patient comfort and satisfaction, offering clear communication, responsive care for concerns, and comprehensive support from pre-operative consultations through post-anesthesia recovery.

We are committed to advancing anesthesia practices through ongoing research and educational initiatives. We invest in residency training and continuous medical education for our team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in patient care.

Overview of anesthesia services

Anesthesia services are provided by our team of anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists (CRNAs). These healthcare professionals work collaboratively with surgeons, nurses, and other members of the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safety during surgical and medical procedures.

Anesthesia services encompass a range of specialized procedures and techniques, including:

We conduct preoperative evaluations to assess a patient's medical history, current health status, and any risk factors that may impact anesthesia administration or patient safety. This assessment helps determine the most appropriate anesthesia plan for each patient.

  • Pre-anesthesia assessment with an advanced practice provider or pre-procedural telephone nurse
  • Pre-procedural and day of procedure instruction and education, including fasting and medication instructions
  • Evaluation of test results with notification to referring practice for any issues requiring follow-up
  • Review for completeness of required Inova documentation, external testing results, medical history and physical examination, consent forms and advance directives

We administer anesthesia medications to induce and maintain anesthesia during surgical procedures or medical treatments. The type of anesthesia used depends on factors such as the type of surgery, patient preferences, and medical conditions. Common types of anesthesia include:

  • General anesthesia: Induces a state of unconsciousness and loss of sensation throughout the entire body
  • Regional anesthesia: Blocks sensation in a specific area of the body, such as epidural or spinal anesthesia for lower body surgeries
  • Local anesthesia: Numbs a small area of the body, often used for minor surgical procedures or pain management

We continuously monitor vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate, to ensure patient safety and well-being during anesthesia administration. We also manage patients' airways, breathing, and circulation as needed throughout the procedure.

We manage pain before, during, and after surgical procedures to ensure patient comfort and minimize discomfort. This may involve administering pain medications, nerve blocks, or other pain management techniques tailored to each patient's needs.

After the surgical procedure is complete, we continue to monitor patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) to assess recovery, manage pain, and address any complications or side effects related to anesthesia administration. We ensure patients are stable and comfortable before transitioning to a regular hospital room or discharge.
