Types of Clinical Trials
Some of our research studies are sponsored by pharmaceutical companies and allow us access to therapies not otherwise available to our patients. We also offer "home brew" studies, or investigator initiated research studies that are based on our own unique ideas. Some are quite simple and others expand upon conventional wisdom. Home brew studies include observational studies, which look at data gathered over time, as well as unique therapeutic trials available as a result of our association with the National Institutes of Health and George Mason University. TOP 3 Inova Advanced Lung Disease Contributions to Clinical Care Advancement Through Patient-Centered Research
- Top enroller for ex-vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) study to maximize the availability of donor lungs for transplantation.
- Inova was a clinical research site participating in study of Inhaled Trepostinil for PH-ILD treatment, which is now FDA approved. Our own Dr. Steven Nathan was one of three steering committee members for this ground-breaking study.
- Inova was proud to collaborate with the NIH on an exciting phase 2 clinical trial of a novel therapy, fostamatinib, as a treatment for COVID 19. This research received an award from the Director of the NHLBI and the drug has now progressed to a pivotal phase 3 study which is soon to be completed.
