About the Inova Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease Program
Any interference with blood flow to our brain is a life-threatening cerebrovascular condition. It is important to seek immediate care.
We have a multidisciplinary team of stroke and interventional neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neuro-intensivists and rehabilitation specialists who provide expert management of all brain blood vessel conditions including stroke, brain aneurysm, arteriovenous malformations and many others, as well as stroke support groups for post-care support.
If any emergency befalls you, someone you care for, or someone you can help, we are here to support you from the first minutes to the early stages of recovery, rehabilitation, support groups, and beyond. Every second counts.

Why Understanding Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease is Important
Cerebrovascular disease includes all disorders that affect the blood vessels and blood supply to the brain. This includes a blockage, malformation or hemorrhage that prevents brain cells from getting enough oxygen, which can cause brain damage.
Stroke is the most common type of cerebrovascular disease. About 800,000 people in the U.S. have a stroke each year. It is the fifth cause of death and a leading cause of disability. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel carrying oxygen and nutrients to your brain is blocked or bursts, causing brain cells to die. When a stroke occurs, it is important to get care immediately to minimize damage in the brain.
