Allied Health Fields
Inova’s child life specialists dedicate themselves to easing the anxiety and stress affecting children during a hospital stay or outpatient procedure. Our child life experts serve patients at Inova L.J. Murphy Children's Hospital and Inova Loudoun Hospital.
Child life internship
Education - Must be enrolled in an academic program endorsed by the ACLP or completed the academic coursework for the ACLP eligibility assessment

Location - Inova L.J. Murphy Children's Hospital
Inova offers an internship for individuals who are seeking child life specialist certification with the intent to pursue a career in the field of child life. Must be actively enrolled in an academic program endorsed by the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) or have completed the academic coursework for the ACLP eligibility assessment. Completion of a 100-hour child life practicum or 100 hours in a child life assistant role is required.
Imaging professionals work with radiologists and other medical practitioners to help diagnose, monitor or treat a patient's condition. Inova hospitals and outpatient imaging centers serve thousands of patients each year and are equipped with the latest technology for CT, MRI, mammography and all other diagnostic imaging services.

Inova offers two full time, 10-month programs for individuals interested in pursuing ASCP histotechnician (HT) or histotechnologist (HTL) certification and a career in histology. An associate’s degree is required for entry into the HT program. The HTL program is open to 3rd year university students enrolled in a qualifying program and those who have already earned an approved bachelor’s degree.

This full-time, hospital-based training program is for individuals interested in pursuing a career as a professional medical laboratory scientist (MLS). Students will receive the training, education and experience essential for passing the ASCP MLS board certification exam and building a successful career in this field. The MLS program is open to 3rd year university students enrolled in a qualifying program and those who have already earned an approved bachelor’s degree.

Certification - Preparation for ASCP Phlebotomy Board of Registry certification
This entry-level training program teaches the art of venipuncture via a lecture series, a hands-on skills lab and a clinical internship at an Inova care site. It is designed to equip students with the skills, education and confidence they need to pass the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Phlebotomy Board of Registry certification exam. No phlebotomy experience or licensure is necessary, but a high school diploma or GED is required.
Pharmacy professionals provide medication expertise across Inova hospitals, outpatient practices, retail and specialty settings to ensure accurate medication orders. They also provide clinical support and consultation about patient treatment.
Pharmacy technician training program

This program includes hands-on experiential training, a lecture series, and Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam preparation for individuals interested in pursuing an entry-level career in pharmacy. No pharmacy experience or licensure is necessary, but a high school diploma or GED is required.
Education - Eligible Pharmacy students and PharmD graduates pre-selected through ASHP society of Pharmacy

Our pharmacy residency programs offer a variety of professional opportunities for pharmacy students and graduates. Learn more about our accredited PGY1 and PGY2 hospital-based, community-based, ambulatory, and medication-use safety and policy residency programs.
Each academic year, up to 20 VCU School of Pharmacy students can choose to complete their final two years (P3 and P4) on the Inova Fairfax Hospital campus. The location affords students the opportunity to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse patient population, a committed medical team, and a full scope of patient care services.
Rehabilitative therapists assist individuals in recovering and enhancing their physical, mental and emotional capabilities following illness, injury or surgery. Their roles may vary depending on their specialty. Ultimately, rehabilitative therapists are dedicated to helping individuals regain independence and elevate their quality of life. Roles at Inova include opportunities at all five hospitals and more than 20 outpatient clinics across Northern Virginia.

Physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology internship and observership opportunities in the many different disciplines of rehabilitative therapy are available for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in accredited programs. Schools must have a current affiliation agreement on file with Inova and meet all requirements prior to participating in clinical rotations.
Respiratory therapists work with physicians and the healthcare team to identify, treat and care for patients with respiratory diseases or breathing disorders at Inova hospitals, outpatient centers and physician offices.
Respiratory therapy externship program
