Cynthia Sullivan, PhD
Clinical Neuropsychologist
Dr. Cynthia Sullivan has been a partner at the Neuropsychology Associates of Fairfax (NAF) since 2006. She is also an assistant professor of neurology at Georgetown University Medical Center and is credentialed at Inova Fairfax Hospital and Virginia Hospital Center. Dr. Sullivan received her PhD from University of Maryland and completed her fellowship in neuropsychology at Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Washington, DC. For the next 5 years she was the co-director of the neuropsychology program at VAMC and served as the psychologist for the chronic pain program.
Since 1998, she has been actively involved in research. Topics of research interest include computerized cognitive assessment and the cognitive correlates of multiple sclerosis (MS), dementia, neurocysticercosis, allergies, sedating medications, and Persian Gulf War syndrome. She has co-authored book chapters and numerous peer-reviewed journal publications and published abstracts. Her research has been presented at national and international scientific conferences, including American Neurological Association, American Academy of Neurology and the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers.
At NAF, Dr. Sullivan provides neuropsychological evaluations to assist with differential diagnosis and functional analysis for a wide range of neurocognitive conditions across the lifespan, including epilepsy, dementia, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, autoimmune disorders, infectious disease, cerebrovascular illness, psychiatric conditions, learning disabilities, and attention deficit disorders. Dr. Sullivan also serves as the director of the training program at NAF. Dr. Sullivan is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, National Academy of Neuropsychology, International Neuropsychological Society, and American Psychological Association. She has also served as a reviewer for a number of scientific journals.
James Landzinski, PharmD.
Epilepsy Pharmacist
James earned his Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (formerly the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy). He completed a post-graduate training program in general pharmacy practices at the University of Arizona Medical Campus where he received additional training in the epilepsy clinics, and furthered his training at the University of Colorado Medical Center specializing in critical care. James spent the last 10 years working as a critical care clinical pharmacy specialist at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, and is now the Pharmacy Clinical Manager at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. His interests include medical critical care and neuroscience specialties.

Becky Schrews, BSN, RN is the Epilepsy Navigator for the Inova Epilepsy Center.

Becky is available primarily for (but not limited to):
• Coordinating admissions for patients requiring advanced NAEC Level 4 epilepsy care such as continuous video EEG monitoring and pre-surgical evaluations.
• Working with patients who have medically intractable epilepsy who may benefit from a diagnostic or therapeutic surgical procedure (VNS, RNS, resection). Those patients can contact Becky arrange a time to meet with a member of our team of neurologists and neurosurgeon in one of our outpatient clinics.
• Arranging appointments for patients with new onset seizures and refractory (difficult to treat) epilepsy. Most new patient appointments are scheduled within 1-2 weeks of initial contact.
Michael Schmiester
Neurodiagnostic Manager
Michael G. Schmiester received a BS in healthcare administration from Columbia Union College and has board certifications from ABRET (American Board of Registered Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists) in electroencephalography and intra-operative neurophysiology monitoring. Michael is the neurodiagnostic manager for all Inova hospitals. Additionally, Michael is the principle clinical instructor for neurodiagnostic students whom perform their clinical rotation from 1 of 3 affiliated accredited schools. He is a strong advocate for believing that hard work and perseverance are rewarded and that positive thoughts are powerful and rewarding. He involves his staff and students with assignments that reflect these core professional beliefs. His professional interest focuses on the continued expansion of the neurodiagnostic services within Inova. Michael is an active member of the American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists and the American Society of Neurophysiological Monitoring.
