Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS) has become the preferred approach to surgical treatment for a wide range of gynecologic conditions, such as: heavy or irregular menstrual periods, painful menstrual periods, chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and sexual discomfort.

Advantages of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery include:

  • Less blood loss
  • Less impact on the body
  • Less post-operative pain and discomfort
  • Shorter or no hospital stay
  • Quicker recovery time
  • Earlier return to normal activity
  • Very small incisions and scars

Minimally invasive surgery is any surgery that doesn't need a large incision. This newer approach offers faster recovery and less pain than open surgery.

Hysteroscopy (both diagnostic and operative): A procedure that allows your doctor to look inside your uterus for diagnostic and/or treatment purposes.

Laparoscopic or "keyhole" surgery: A type of surgery where a smaller incisions, often referred to as a “keyhole” incisions, are used to insert a needle, a camera, and a small surgical instrument into the body to perform surgery.

Robotic surgery: This has the same advantages as laparoscopic surgery; in addition, the surgical tools are held by robotic arms controlled by the surgeon – this allows the surgeon to operate with increased precision and accuracy while minimizing trauma to surrounding tissues. Learn more

Laparoscopic hysterectomy: A surgical procedure where the uterus (and sometimes the ovaries) are removed through smaller incisions, using laparoscopic techniques. Learn more

Performed by specially trained surgeons, disorders like fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, are surgically managed on an outpatient basis, which means same day surgeries that allow you to recover in the comfort of your own home. In addition, these advanced procedures often cause less pain, leave smaller scars, heal more quickly, and carry a lower risk of infections and complications.
