Life Support Classes

The Heartsaver CPR AED Online course is taught in a blended learning format. Students must complete the online portion, followed by the hands-on skills session. This course provides the highest quality training in the lifesaving skills of CPR and how to use an AED. The course empowers students to act with confidence in the event of an emergency at work, home, or in the community.

Part 1- Online Course – Within 3 business days after registering for this course you will receive an email from elearning.heart.org containing your Heartsaver CPR AED Online access. After successfully completing the online course you will receive a certificate of completion. Please note, you must print and bring a copy of your AHA Heartsaver CPR AED Online certificate of completion with you to the in-person classroom course you have selected. You will NOT be admitted to the in-person class if you do not bring your certificate of completion. We suggest allowing about 1 hour for the online course.

Part 2 - In-Person Classroom Course – After completing the online course described above, you will then attend the pre-scheduled in-person classroom course on the date you registered for. This in-person classroom course will include hands-on practice and skills testing. The structured classroom portion takes 2 hours and requires on-time attendance for the full course. Please note, if you arrive late or leave early you will NOT successfully complete the course.

Requirements to pass this course: Completion of the online course and in person skills testing is required to pass this course.

Card: After course completion criteria are met, a Heartsaver CPR AED card valid for two years will be issued, via email within 3-5 business days after the class date.

This American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED course teaches how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives.

The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED course is designed to meet the regulatory requirements for child care workers in all 50 United States. It teaches child care providers and others to respond to and manage illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. It covers the four steps of first aid and first aid skills such as finding the problem, stopping bleeding, bandaging and using an Epinephrine pen, as well as child CPR AED, infant CPR and adult CPR AED, and how to use a child and infant mask barrier device.

The American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR AED course covers CPR, AED and barrier device use for adults and children and CPR and barrier device use for infants. You will also learn choking relief skills for all ages. This class is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who need adult, child, and infant CPR AED training and a course certification card or for other requirements or for those who want to be prepared to act in an emergency.

The AHA’s BLS Provider Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. This 3 hour and 45 minute instructor led classroom course teaches basic life support skills for application in both in-facility and prehospital settings, with a focus on high-quality CPR, improvement of chest compression fraction, and high-performing team dynamics. The BLS Provider Course teaches rescue techniques for adults, children, and infants.. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing.

The American Heart Association HeartCode BLS Blended Learning Course is for experienced healthcare professionals seeking an alternative method for renewing their BLS certification. This course has been updated to reflect new science and training recommendations in the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. In this course learners follow a continuously adapting learning path that is personalized by the learner's own inputs; their performance, and their self-reported confidence level related to each probe. The course content is presented in the form of self-directed learning content, probes, and Cognitive Assessment Activities. This course consists of two parts:

• Part 1 - Online eLearning Course – After registering for this course you will receive an email from eLearningheart.org within 3 business days containing your 2020 HeartCode BLS Online code. This code in the form of a unique link provides access to the online course. After successfully completing the online course you will receive a certificate of completion. Please note, you must print and bring a copy of your AHA HeartCode BLS Online certificate of completion with you to the in-person HeartCode BLS classroom course you have selected. The American Heart Association Family and Friends Infant CPR course teaches infant CPR skills (birth to 12 months). It is designed for those people who want to know and be aware of what to do in a situation where a baby may choke, stop breathing, or not have a pulse. You will learn how to open an airway that is obstructed and how to perform CPR until EMS arrives. This course is for personal enhancement and should not be taken by those who need to know these skills for their job. 

• Card: This is not a certification course, no card is issued.
• Cost: $45 per attendee; separate registration and payment is required for each attendee.

The American Heart Association Family and Friends CPR - Adult, Child & Infant Skills course teaches the lifesaving skills of adult Hands-Only CPR, adult CPR with breaths, child CPR with breaths, adult and child AED use, infant CPR, and mild and severe airway block for adults, children, and infants. This course is ideal for community groups, new parents, grandparents, babysitters, and others interested in learning how to save a life. Please note, children are not permitted to attend this course. 

• Card: This is not a certification course, no card is issued.

This 2-day American Heart Association ACLS Provider Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC, as well as the 2019 Update to the 2018 ASA Ischemic Stroke Guidelines. ACLS teaches the importance of preventing cardiac arrest, high-performance teams, continuous high-quality CPR, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, post-cardiac arrest care, acute dysrhythmias, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

The goal of the ACLS Provider Course is to improve outcomes for adult patients of cardiac arrest and other cardiopulmonary emergencies through early recognition and interventions by high-performance teams. This course is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies and need an ACLS card for their job.

This one-day American Heart Association ACLS Provider Update Course is designed for healthcare professionals to update their skills in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies.

Students do not need to have a current AHA ACLS card to take this course, however if you do not pass your written exam or megacode skills and you do not have a current AHA ACLS card to show your instructor, you will not be allowed to remediate. The American Heart Association HeartCode ACLS Online Blended Learning Course is a blended learning delivery method that combines the best of classroom learning with eLearning. HeartCode ACLS uses adaptive learning technology to allow learners to demonstrate Advanced Cardiac Life Support skills using a personalized learning path that adapts in real time to a learner’s performance to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings.

• Who Should Enroll: This course is for experienced healthcare professionals who have taken an ACLS course previously and have strong proficiency and knowledge of ACLS skills.
• Accessing the eLearning Online Course: After registering for this course you will receive an email within 3 business days from elearning.heart.org containing your HeartCode ACLS eLearning code access. This code, in the form of a unique link, provides access to the online course.
• Completing the eLearning Online Course: Utilizing a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, Cognitive Assessment Activities, illustrations, knowledge checks and interactive activities, this program teaches ACLS knowledge and skills. This method of learning provides training consistency and adaptability to different learning styles. Students can work at their own pace applying their knowledge to real-time decision making. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each knowledge check and each Cognitive Assessment Activity.
  
  After successfully completing the online course you will receive a certificate of completion. Please note, you must print and bring a copy of the certificate of completion with you to the in-person HeartCode ACLS classroom course you have selected. The American Heart Association ACLS Instructor Course is an intensive course for instructor candidates who have already successfully completed the ACLS Provider Course. The instructor candidate should exemplify integrity, demonstrate strong ethics, communicate clearly, and model a dedication to quality of training.

• Requirements to take this course: ACLS instructor candidates must meet certain requirements before taking the ACLS Instructor Course. In order to become an AHA ACLS Instructor, all candidates must:
  • Be licensed or certified in a healthcare occupation in which the ACLS skills are within their scope of practice
  • Be aligned with an AHA Training Center
  • Complete an Instructor Candidate Application and file it with your Training Center
  • Have a current/official AHA ACLS Provider course completion card
  • Be proficient in the skills of ACLS
• Requirements to pass this course: To become an instructor, you must successfully complete the ACLS Instructor Course and be monitored teaching an ACLS Provider Course successfully (this could take more than one monitoring).

The goal of the PALS Provider Course is to improve outcomes for pediatric patients by preparing healthcare providers to effectively recognize and intervene in patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest by using high-performance team dynamics and high-quality individual skills. This course uses precourse preparation, didactic instruction, and active participation in learning stations and simulated cases.

• Prerequisites: Before coming to class students must pass the mandatory PALS precourse self-assessment and bring a printed copy of their score report with them to class.

This 1-day American Heart Association PALS Provider Update Course is designed as a refresher for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients and have taken a PALS course previously. The goal of the PALS Provider Course is to improve outcomes for pediatric patients by preparing healthcare providers to effectively recognize and intervene in patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest by using high-performance team dynamics and high-quality individual skills. This course uses precourse preparation, didactic instruction, and active participation in learning stations and simulated cases.

• Prerequisites: Before coming to class you must complete and pass the mandatory precourse self-assessment and precourse work video lessons. You must bring a printed copy of your score report AND a printed copy of your certificate for completing the precourse work with you to class. Information on how to complete the precourse self-assessment and precourse work can be found in the student letter in the confirmation email after registration.
