PGY2 pharmacy residency programs are built on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 Pharmacy Residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete a PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.
Graduates of the Inova Health System PGY2 Ambulatory Pharmacy Residency program will be empowered to treat and manage patients from complex chronic illnesses to routine ambulatory concerns. Emphasis is placed on the delivery of care for the entire patient, with graduates being well equipped to function as an integrated member of the interdisciplinary team. In addition, the resident will acquire the experiences necessary to exercise leadership in ambulatory pharmacy practice at a local and health-care system level and provide experiential and didactic education to a variety of healthcare professionals and those training to be healthcare professionals.
