MyChart Bedside is available only for admitted patients and/or their proxies. Family members who have proxy access to your MyChart account will be notified about your admission and care.

Frequently asked questions

Unlike MyChart, MyChart Bedside is specific to your hospital stay. It’s an application within the Inova’s MyChart portal, which activates after you are admitted into the hospital. You must have a MyChart account to connect to MyChart Bedside. Once you’re discharged, MyChart Bedside will no longer be accessible, and you will return to the standard view of MyChart.

You can track your daily schedule, view medication details, watch patient education videos, and send messages to the nursing care team. You can also complete questionnaires for your care site. Some examples would be: · 

  • Activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Depression screening (PHQ9)
  • Mental health screening (CSSRS)
  • MRI screening
  • Prenatal and postpartum depression screening (Edinburgh)
  • Social Drivers of Health (SDOH)

Note: At this time, the meal ordering feature is currently available at Inova Fair Oaks and Inova Loudoun hospitals only.

At this time, the use of video visits, direct messages to physicians, or special requests will not be available in MyChart Bedside. If admitted patients need help, they are advised to use the call button in their hospital room.

MyChart Bedside is available only for admitted patients and/or their proxies at Inova hospitals.

Yes, if the hospitalized patient granted proxy access to a family member or designated caregiver and a HIPAA release is signed by the patient. A patient can also grant access in MyChart: 

  • Under the MyChart Menu, navigate to Share My Record
  • Choose Friends and Family Access 

Once you have proxy access, you can view a family member or loved one’s information anywhere on your mobile phone. For more information about proxy access, visit Inova.org/MyChartFAQs.

Clinical information about your hospital stay will be stored in your electronic medical record.

Log into your MyChart via the Inova app and select “My Hospital Stay.” You can also download the Inova app in the App Store or Google Play to access MyChart. If you don’t have an MyChart account, visit Inova.org/MyChart. You can also ask your care team if you need assistance.
